These tables started as a project within the Harvard University Native American Program at Harvard. The original mission was to bring together from all United States census and surveys and other statistics over time and available from the earliest to the most recent information. Because the project was initiated in 2007 as part of the Nations Building II course, most of the data series end with the 2000 Census. We are currently adding new content. These tables are meant to be used by Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians to help advance the well-being of indigenous peoples through self-determination, academic achievement, and community service. Good research is essential to reaching these goals. These tables provide support for use of statistical and demographic data about U.S. indigenous people.
This site is a research portal for individuals looking for statistical and demographic data about American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. All of the data on this site are publically (and digitally) available from their original sources – but this site brings them together in a user-friendly, intuitive manner. Although we realize that this is neither a comprehensive database, nor an exhaustive library, we hope that it provides a good starting point for research and facilitates access to a large portion of the current data about American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians.
